Story

AROUND 14 PUNCTURES AND 2 INJECTIONS WE MADE IT TO PARIS!!!!! WELL DONE TEAM ST GEORGE!!!

We finally complete our challenge of cycling from London to Paris over the weekend. What an experience!!! We set off from London on Friday 11th June to what turned out to be the wettest day of our trip!! Cycling through torrential rain with water logged shoes was not an experience the team would like to repeat again. But once the rain stopped things got a little better. Well I say that......... after the rain came the crash.......... Scott had been forced off of his bike and into another cyclist as Chris slammed on his brakes in order to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road. Apologies to Scott for that, but what a spectacular crash it was............ You will be pleased to know that all parties involved cycled away unharmed although Scott did require some cycle tape which the medic fixed with a surgical glove. The first day was definitely the hardest day. A crazy amount of steep hill climbs and wet roads was certainly demanding on the team and their bikes. After making it through the Kent countryside and the team gaining many punctures, they finally made it to the decent into Dover. A very eventful descent I must add...... being on such a tight schedule in order to catch the ferry did not allow for time to get a puncture....... and guess what...... both Sue and Chris managed to get 3 punctures between them, could things get any worse!!!! Luckily we all made it in time for the ferry and our fish and chips on the boat!! After an eventful first day, day 2 and 3 were gorgeous....... beautiful weather and smooth roads allowed for the team to finally enjoy the ride although at some stages we were just exhausted from the first day, and some of us still had wet shoes! But this did not stop us from taking in the stunning scenery and just enjoying the ride. When we finally made it to Paris the teams bottoms were still intact but I could not say the same for our cycling shorts, tops and shoes!! What a stink!!! I think we cleared the roads to Paris with our stench!! But even so, we were all greeted with a warm welcome from the people on the streets as we approached the Eiffel Tower and the finish of our challenge!! Well done to Scott, Andy, Gareth, Sue and Chris, but a special thanks and well done to all of you that have sponsored Team St George!!! Without your support we would not have been able to make it through the rain and up the hills!! Big thank you to you all and we hope you will be able to support us on our next challenge...... watch this space............ x

SUCCESS - Kili10 challenge completed

Sue successfully reached the summit after 4 days and a final gruelling 12hr climb.  Having said that she would not contemplate the Western Breach (a climb rather than the normal trek) she did it anyway.  Obviously the altitude took over from common sense!

The boys did not let Sue down whilst she was away as they continuted training for London to Paris, but now that she's back the boys are sure that training is gong to become much tougher and pub lunch stops will become a thing of the past!

On 19 January 2010 Andy, Chris, Gareth, Scott and Sue decided to take on the challenge of cycling from to in just three days in aid of Children in Crisis.  We will be heading off on 11 June.

Team St George embarked on their first training session on 6 February where they set off from Shoreham on Sea to , 37.5 miles of mud and sweat!  This was definitely a wake up call for us all and what we had let ourselves in for.  Thanks Sue for dragging us in to this!  We know that you are going to be climbing Kilimanjaro at the end of March, but did you not think that that was enough for one year!  Obviously not!
