In August 2013, my Mum was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease at the age of 60.  Over the next 17 months, she lost the ability to talk and swallow and suffered widespread muscle wastage with physical and respiratory weakness as the disease progressed. Even through such a cruel and devastating illness, Mum remained so positive and determined and her personality and humour shone through.  Our wonderful Mum passed away peacefully at home on 24th January 2015.  She knew we were with her and her family and friends were thinking of her and sending her their love.  Our Mum was an incredibly special person and truly was an inspiration to us all.

As a family we are extremely grateful and appreciative of the support and services provided by MND Scotland and really can't praise and thank them enough.  MND Scotland relies almost entirely on the effort of fundraisers to continue its services.  We are committed to doing all we can to raise awareness of this cruel incurable disease and to raise much needed and much deserved funding for MND Scotland.  The money raised will be put to good use providing direct patient care and supporting families affected by MND, like ours, plus funding essential research to gain understanding of this cruel and devastating disease and ultimately, hopefully, find a treatment and cure.

We started our fundraising for MND Scotland with Mum by taking part in the MND Scotland Fun Run 2014 together.  Our fundraising efforts for MND Scotland will continue in memory and celebration of our brave and amazing Mum.  Watch this space for our next fundraising venture.......!
