Story
Hi! Right so basically, we will be doing a jailbreak (organised by DUCK - the Durham University Charities Kommittee) to raise money for the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
The Disaster's Emergency Committee co-ordinates relief agencies (including Oxfam, Tearfund, The Red Cross) in times of major disasters and emergencies which cannot be dealt with solely by in-country resources. (Their latest appeal is the Pakistan Floods Appeal). At least 95% of donations go directly to the relief agencies' work, which is a really high percentage, so it's really worthwhile to donate. Google them if you don't believe us!
Jailbreak = A massive 'hitch-hike' essentially, testing all our powers of creativity, spontaneity and persuasion...See how far away from Durham you can get in 36 hours, WITHOUT ANY MONEY. Last year apparently one team made it as far away as South Korea (no idea how, but it sounds very impressive. Unless they cheated. But yeah. Our goal is to make it out of the country, maybe to Amsterdam. Or Norway! If we're lucky. Or Greece! Really want to go to Greece!!) Anyway it should be fun, never done anything like this before, and it's for a really good cause! (Also for those of you who know us well you'll know that our combined survival skills are basically zero, so...it should be entertaining at the very least! Well Alistair will probably be a really big asset actually. Ben is useless. Nicole is...basically useless. But she'll be wearing a cool Batgirl outfit! )
Thank you very very much for sponsoring us; wish us luck!!
