Why are we running?

Well the reasons for running varies greatly between the members of the team. For some it was the awful fintness results given out to them in the staff canteen by sales people wanting to sell expensive gym memberships, for others its just another 13miles.

Whilst we are running as a team we don't think there will be many team tactics in this race as some members looking to set PB with times below 1 hour 30, with other members looking to simply finish before the litter pickers and one member just simply looking to finish quicker than he should be able to walk it.

What is clear though is the peer pressure within the team to motivate each other to get out and stop using the snow and cold weather as an excuse for not training. (although one member is yet to train outdoors)

Who are we running for?

Rather than bombard the TIU email system with emails asking for your support we thought one collective campaign would be harder to ignore.

We are running for The British Scoliois Research Foundation (BSRF) www.bsrf.co.uk

The reason for this is Andrew Line's girlfriend (Audrey) is going to be having an operation on her spine the day after the half marathon.

Audrey has Scoliois and suffers from a curved spine which she was diagnosed with as a teenager and having spent a lot of her teens in hospital and wearing a brace around her back. This treatment was aimed at preventing the curve of her spine continuing. Unfortunatly she was recently X-rayed to find the curve had reached an angle where it was going to be putting pressure on her vital organs. So it was decided to operate on Audrey.

Her operation will last up to 8 hours and she be off work for up to 3 months whilst she recovers.

The causes of scoliosis are many, and although the consequences are well understoond, the origins of this condition remain complex and obscure.

We are running for two charities Cancer Research UK and The British Scoliois Research Foundation (BSRF) we are doing two seperate Justgiving pages as we can't work out how to do a joint one for 2 charities.
