Story

Welcome to the Tesco Fish Team JustGiving site.

Well, we did it!  22 people in total took part with 6 of them doing the half marathon!  We all finished the course - it was an incredibly hot day and while it was a struggle at times I believe overall we all had a great day and are all pleased with our achievements!

We'd like to thank our friends, family and colleagues who made it up/down on the day and were there along the course to cheer us on - it made such a difference - thankyou! Special thanks goes to the Farne Team who set up a cheering station and stayed all day to support us - can't tell you how great that was to see you all there near the end!!

And thanks to all those who have sponsored us for such a great cause.

Linda

28 May 2010

The team has decided to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon as a way to recognise and say thank you to all the Fishermen that help us put fish on the Nation's Dinner Table.  Their work is hard and dangerous and should be acknowledged.  The Fisherman's Mission is the only charity that supports the Fishermen and their families when things go wrong and as such we felt it was only appropriate that we raised money for this great Charity.

We have 23 people taking part, most running the Marathon with 6 people running the half.

The Event takes place on 23 May 2010.

Please take time to look at the photographs of the people taking part!

A message from a member of the Tesco Fish Supply base :-

The Fishermen’s mission provides pastoral care and financial support to fishing communities in times of hardship and despair. “At the heart of the Mission’s work is a strong Christian ethos which is reflected in a genuine motivation to serve others.”

Having been brought up in Mallaig, a small fishing village on Scotland’s north west coast, my close family have been heavily involved in the fishing industry. In addition my late mother served the local mission in her role as Cook for many years.

The Fishermen’s mission personnel have provided valuable support to my family and myself in times of bereavement and sorrow which we are enormously grateful for.

The Fishermen’s mission is a very worthy organization to support and deserves the recognition of all the good it carries out within the fishing communities so please donate and help our fishermen.

Paul Mathieson - Technical Manager, Nor-Sea Foods Ltd, Aberdeen.

Team Members:-

Linda J Arnold - Technical Manager, Tesco

"I was looking for a challenge, to push my personal boundaries and thought trying to run a Marathon would be a good one to test me!  It was not one of my better ideas!  However running for a great cause was and I am delighted that I am able to test myself and raise worthwhile funds and profile for the great organisation that is the Fisherman's Mission.  Its my way of giving a little back to the industry that employs me! So please support me and the team as we attempt this."

David Mayer - Agriculture Manager, Tesco

I am running as I thought it was high time I stopped talking about doing a marathon and did one!  Despite not eating fish, its a great cause.  My training is going well, despite some minor injury set backs and I am on track to get round in an OK time...  For those that know me, training has never been my strong point, but this is different"

Team Farne Salmon:-

Jacek Grodzicki Jacek works in slicing hall 2 on the backshift and we understand that running is not new to Jacek having seen a photograph of him when he was a lot younger completing a 100k endurance race in  !!

Andrew Oliver Andrew works in dry goods; he has tried to fit his training in around building the great wall of Tweedmouth and looking after his young daughter, but has been spotted in Berwick under the cover of night pounding out the miles.

Marianne Aitken Marianne is a trainee account manager responsible for Tesco and Bradgate Bakeries. I think the decision to run the marathon was taken in a moment of madness in the hope that not only would it help with her fitness, but also with career progression. Wrong on both counts!  Unfortunately early in her training program Marianne picked up a calf injury and following treatment she has had to rest and as result to drop down to the half marathon distance (still a formidable challenge) Marianne has persuaded her partner Guy Brunt to run the marathon with her as part of the Farne team (must be love) because he has agreed to run and will take his place at the start with the other team members!!

he 5th member of the team.  Roy has come out of self imposed retirement after saying I would never run a full marathon again after doing both and marathons two years ago. But thanks to Linda’s persuasive skills and a few too many glasses of  wine whilst out with Tesco, I have dusted off the running shoes and the lycra tights and can be see most nights after work putting in the miles needed to run a marathon.
