I have decided to pull on some (frankly, eye-wateringly expensive) trainers and run in (probably, eye-wateringly painful) circles around Taunton for the unlucky distance of 13 miles in aid of the NCT.

You may not know what NCT stands for; you may not have realized that they are a charity and you may have assumed they only help middle-class women. 

 In fact they help over a million parents each year in the UK.  Last year more than 54,000 parents attended their classes (which can cost as little as £14 if you can't afford the full amount), more than 70,000 parents phoned their helplines about pregnancy, birth or childcare issues, and more than 63,000 mothers were helped with breastfeeding problems.

In the Taunton area, we have four antenatal course teachers, a breastfeeding counsellor and postnatal teacher.  We have a quarterly magazine, coffee mornings, other socials, a postcode buddy system and even a home birth group co-ordinator (that's me!).

At times, when I have been desperate to get out of the house there has always been an NCT event that I could go to for company (has anyone elso noticed how much better behaved babies are in other people's houses...).

I would say that I'd caught the running bug, but I don't think I can run fast enough to catch anything yet...
