Story

Early hours of Sunday 7th June 2020 Emmanuel Gatanga suffered a heart attack which left him with no heart beat for 20 minutes. He was at home with his partner who called the emergency services who did all that they could to bring him back round. This was completely out of the blue with Emmanuel having no underlying health conditions. A fit, well, young, family and working man who at the time was only 34 years old.

Although the medics were able to start Emmanuel’s heart again unfortunately because there had been 20 minutes without a beat this has caused many neurological conditions. After spending a long period of time in the hospital and seeing different specialists Emmanuel has been left not being able to communicate or go back to life as it was. Due to these conditions he is not able to go home to his family and has needed 24/7 care. He is now receiving treatment by a specialist neurological care centre where they are looking after Emmanuel day and night in the hope that he will start to recover.

On Saturday 29th May it will be Emmanuel’s 35th birthday. Emmanuel is one of the most outgoing, upbeat friendly people you could meet. An eye for fashion, always making a statement with his outfits when walking into a room. A loving and caring partner and father and a man who was passionate about raising money for charities that were close to his heart.

It has been nearly a year since this happened and we are looking to raise money for charity to celebrate his birthday.

About the charity

The Marillac is an independant, not for profit care home which relies on good will and generosity to provide quality and comfort for residents. We always look for new ways to extend our services for younger people with physical and neurological disabilities - sponsorship for this is invaluable.
