Story

Firstly, I want to say thank you to you for even taking the time to look at my page. Even if you have just read this it means a lot to me.

As many of you are aware on 11.3.2020 I lost my beautiful friend LCpl Brodie Gillon during a rocket attack in Taji whilst on Op Shader 10, she was only the age of 26. Brodie was a reserve combat medical technician with the Scottish and North Irish Yeomanry for 5 years, and was attached to the 1st battalion Irish Guards for the Operational Tour. This was a tragic time and experience for all of us, but now we all remember our Brodie to be the person she always was- fun, loving, determined, mischievous, outgoing and the list goes on. Brodie always had a positive attitude on her no matter how rubbish times sometimes was, her smile and presence would brighten up any dull room or moment and she would constantly make me laugh and cheer me up.

Brodie was there for everyone and would do anything to help others, she would always put others before herself and wanted everyone to be happy. However, now I want to do something for Brodie and give this back to her (and also her beautiful friends and family who have been nothing but amazing to me aswell) and raise money for a charity called heads-up which is a new charity run by 4 veterans to help serving and former forces build a positive mindset and increase their mental resilience. I know Brodie would have respected and appreciate this charity as she always would try and turn every negative into a positive always.

Me and Brodie loved doing fitness together, nearly everyday we would get up early to go to the gym together, although sometimes we just wanted extra sleep and didn’t care about our “Op Holiday Bod” we had going on in Taji. We also went to every HIIT and Yoga class they had on out there- although we just laughed the whole time during yoga as we was pretty awful haha! We also had planned that we would run the marathon carrying weight on our backs one day together.

In order for me to come up with my idea, I have used the dates 11.3.2020, the number 10 on “Op shader 10” and Brodie's age “26” and I came up with the below challenge..

On Thursday 10th March 22 at 1200hrs Uk time (1500hrs for those in Kenya with me) I will start my charity event.

I will start off with a 3Km tab/run carrying 10kg.

I will then complete 11 different exercises for 20 reps/seconds and do this till the hour is over and then start with the 3km tab again.

The exercises are below:

Bicep curls, sit-ups, squats, star jumps, leg raises, ball slams, plank, lunges, toe taps, hip thrusts and shoulder taps.

I will have to be active, doing this for a period of 20hours, in a time frame of 26hours - meaning I will have 6hours or less for food etc, however I do not need to use the full 6 hours. On Friday 11th 2022 (which will mark 2 years) I will finish my challenge At 1700hrs (1400hrs UK time).

Any donations will be going to a great cause and I hope you can all participate with me in some ways, if you are in kenya at the time come and join me for a lap of the 3km and if you are at home I would love to see you participate in the workout I will do! There will be videos throughout and a live stream in places so you can follow my journey on the 10th and 11th of March.

With love Mia x
