We provide the support needed to give homeless young people a future

Story

800 miles, 1 banger, 5 drivers, one dream

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page

Every year since 2002 Credit Suisse in the UK has partnered with a charity for a year to raise funds in a way that can involve all its employees; in that time we have raised over £5 million for eight charities.  This year our Charity of the Year is Centrepoint- www.centrepoint.org.uk

Centrepoint gives 1,300 homeless young people a safe place to stay, then uses this as the foundation to get their lives back on track. By offering learning, health and financial support over 80% of Centrepoint's young people leave to lead independent lives in education or employment.  Credit Suisse is supporting Centrepoint's Learning team. We’re raising money to give young people basic skills, education, financial literacy, preparation for work and everything else a young homeless person needs to move on to independent living.

John McGuinness (Captain), Peter Fox (Vice Captain), Tosh Elder (Chief Entertainment Engineer), Sean Bourke (Team Mechanical Masterman) and Elissa Weston (Brains & Beauty amongst the Brawn) of the Credit Suisse HR team in EMEA will be coming together disguised as Famous Victorians in an attempt to drive from London to Milan over 26 – 28 October, using a banger worth no more than £500.  We need to raise a minimum of £1000 for Centrepoint’s great work to get a starting position.

This event is not a timed race, and winners will be awarded based on the top 3 teams with the most points.  Points are awarded on the following basis:-

1)     Money raised £1 = 1 point

2)     Teams with the most elaborately decorated banger and outfits

3)     Teams that complete the challenge in the most creative way (NOT the fastest time)

4)   Points for completing a series of challenges (requiring photographic evidence) along the way.

How you can contribute

The event will be entirely self-funded. However, to make this a successful money-raising event we will need support from our wider network; and that's where you come in. We hope that you believe, with us, that raising money for Centrepoint is a worthwhile cause. Our target is to raise at least £1,000 before we depart on October 26, but of course, being a competitive bunch, we hope to smash that target. To achieve this we depend on your generosity.

If you would consider sponsoring this event, here's how you can contribute:

·         Donating a fixed sum, now, through our secure JustGiving page: http://www.justgiving.com/TheVictorians

·         Alternatively, you can sponsor us by donating an amount for each of the following:-

·         £10 per challenge successfully completed (proven by photographs)

·         A specified amount (ie. 25p, 50p, £1 etc) for every mile the car drives without assistance (ie. Tow truck)

·         Discretionary bonus for winning one of the team prizes above

If you choose the second method of giving please drop me a line with the amount you wish to sponsor and we will be in touch during the first week of November to tell you how we did, and therefore how much you need to donate via the JustGiving site.

Either way, please dig deep.

At the end of the race, the banger will be sold on to a scrap yard in Milan (hopefully not before then!), and money recieved will be donated back to the Centrepoint fund.

Thank you !

Johnny, Tosh, Sean, Peter, Elissa
