On the 20th of August 2023, I will be taking on the challenge of Ironman Copenhagen: a gruelling test of endurance consisting of a 3.8km swim, a 180km cycle, and a marathon. Whilst doing so, I am hoping to raise funds for Cardiomyopathy UK, in memory of Devrut Nathwani.

In 2021, Devrut, a friend of mine and Sian (my girlfriend's) cousin, passed away suddenly whilst playing football and was subsequently diagnosed with arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy. Dev was one of the kindest and most inspirational people I knew, and his loss has left a huge void in the lives of those who knew him. 

Remembering Dev's positivity and energy has kept me motivated in some of the toughest times of my training and whilst we will never be able to fill the hole left by his loss, I believe that he would have wanted to help others with the same condition. I have therefore chosen to support Cardiomyopathy UK whilst undertaking this challenge. 

Cardiomyopathy UK are the only UK charity dedicated to providing support and information to anyone affected by cardiomyopathy. They rely entirely on donations, and are working for prompt diagnosis, information and treatment to save lives and improve quality of life. Just £30 pays for six people to receive a living with cardiomyopathy pack and £20 pays for a 30 minute call to a specialist helpline nurse.

Dev was a keen and talented athlete, and whilst I never got to take to the football pitch with him, I know he would have followed and supported my Ironman journey every step of the way.
