I wasn't originally going to put myself under the pressure of raising money for charity on this, my first venture into running beyond marathon distance, in case I couldn't do it.

However, having trained myself up to a pretty high mileage now I have learned that I probably have the mental stamina for it and reasonably confident that I can cross the finish line, even if on all fours.

I have therefore decided to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

33 years ago our family lost my baby brother to a heart defect shortly after his birth. His birthday is just a few days before my race, and it seems fitting to remember him at that time.

Since 1982 science and research has evolved at dramatic pace, and perhaps, were he born in the current times there could have been a different outcome. I wish to therefore raise money for the Foundation so that they can continue with their hard work and change the outcome of many families lives in the future.
