We provide vital funding to support seafarers in need.

Story

The registered charity Seafarers UK (King George's Fund for Sailors) is looking to raise £1m to support seafarers in distress and their families (www.seafarers-uk.org).

Earlier this year the charity has pledged funds to the fishing communities in the Indian Ocean following the tsumani disaster. Lloyd's MIU, and the T&F Informa group as a whole, is proud to support the charity in this effort and took part in the Three Peaks Challenge in July 2005, and has elected to contribute 50% of our funds raised to the Seafarers UK Tsunami fund. The team, in the space of 24 hours, climbed the three highest peaks in Scotland, England & Wales - these being Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The going was tough and we lost two walkers to injuries along the way.... whilst another finished using a walking pole to support a damaged knee.

From Lloyd's MIU (London & Milton Park offices), the walkers comprised John Phillips (Senior Analyst), Paul Millar (Manager), Chris Morgan (Marine/Aviation Analyst) and Mikhail Vinogradov (Russian Analyst), from Lloyd's List Bunker 60, Jamie Dale (Prices Editor Milton Park Office), and from London office; Craig Eason (Conference Producer Maritime & Transport Conferences), Emma Blaney (Director of HR & Operations PJB), and Richard Jones (Marketing Manager BIOS Garland Science). We climbed 11,172 feet over 24/25 miles in just under 15 hrs walking time. We were aided by Mr Simon Denton and Ms Emma Link our invaluable support team.

Still, climbing the mountains was the easy part. Raising money for the charity required a huge amount of effort, ingenuity and originality. In addition to this page, corporate sponsorship, product sales, an internet raffle and word of mouth have helped us to pass our goal of £5,000. This page will stay open until 11 September 2005 to facilitate our efforts in trying to reach £8,500 - lets stick with it. So if you can, please join us in sponsoring the charity via this page.

Alternatively contact John Phillips (aka Pops) on tel +44 (0) 20 7017 5781 (email john.phillips@lloydsmiu.com) or Jamie Dale on +44 (0) 20 7017 5787. Thank you for visiting this fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor our team online. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Seafarers UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Can we also take this opportunity to thank our main corporate sponsors including: T&F Informa, Mamadoil/Jetoil, Essex Shipping Services Ltd, Maxcom Bunkers SrL, Teekay Shipping Services and Ascot Commodities.
