We work to make international trade fair to tackle poverty all around the world

Story

This year it's time to take on the big one, becoming Forty Five and Fat I decided to do the London Marathon for Fairtrade.

Why Fairtrade? Two billion people – a third of humanity – survive on less than $2 a day.

Unfair trade rules keep them in poverty, but they also face the global challenges of food shortages and climate change too. Fairtrade is a passionate movement for change, tackling poverty and injustice through trade. As a development organisation it brings together producers, businesses, communities and individuals to campaign for a fairer trade system. You can find out more information below or go to their website here

Obviously I'm not running 26 miles in a frock, and not dressed as a banana either, as it will be hard enough without 10,000 sequins to slow me down however good the photo opportunity would look.  However please dig deep and donate now.

More Below

In Ghana, an elderly cocoa farmer carries a sack of beans miles from his farm to the co-operative’s store, where he knows the scales will be accurate and he will be paid for the full weight of his crop. This story could be repeated time and again around the world with farmers’ but the use of their Fairtrade premiums to buy their own scales is a potent symbol of how Fairtrade enables them to take more control over their businesses and their lives.

In the Amazon rainforest straddling Bolivia, Brazil and Peru, Fairtrade helps nearly 30,000 families earn a decent living from harvesting Brazil nuts. The fair and stable pricing and premium for investment at the heart of Fairtrade standards underpin sustainable development in these communities while protecting the precious natural resources of the rainforest.

Through Fairtrade, millions of people working in certified producer organisations feel more secure and in control of their lives. The challenge now is to take this successful model and scale up the reach and impact of Fairtrade so that it can begin to truly transform trade in favour of the poor and disadvantaged.

So please dig deep and donate now.

PS Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Fairtrade has changed the lives of over a million farmers and workers in the developing world. But there are many more still getting a bad deal from international trade. Support us and bring Fairtrade to more farmers, workers and their families, so that they too can work their own way out of poverty
