We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

How do you open one of these pages? Do you jump straight in? It all seems a bit cold that way, I don't want to hard sell you - I'm just running for two superbly lovely people & a cause I really believe in. I'm not a literary genius so best I just thank you for visiting - and I really do thank you from the bottom of my heart for showing an interest -  and tell you what I'm doing and why:

After a short battle with cancer my friend Kat passed away on Christmas Eve 2009.
She was one of the nicest people you'd ever have the fortune to meet, something to which every person who knew her testifies. To lose a good soul that young is always so tragic. Having already lost my mum a few years ago to cancer I decided that I wanted to do something in honour of them both.I was also thinking of a friend who is putting up an inspirational fight against leukaemia, which convinced me I should try and do something impressive to inspire others.

I have therefore decided to do a year of running challenges. The main part will be a 2-week run from the peak of Snowdon mountain in Wales to Central London. Along with the Longmynd Hike and 5 marathons this will hopefully inspire more people to donate to the cause. In chronological order this is my plan for a year of fundraising:

SEP 12th, 2010: The Robin Hood Marathon, Nottingham.

OCT 3rd & 4th, 2010: The Longmynd Hike, Shropshire (50 miles in 24 hours, with 8,500ft of ascent).

DEC 5th, 2010: The Luton Marathon, Bedfordshire.

MAR 7th, 2011: The Duchy Marathon, Cornwall.

APR 2nd to APR 15th, 2011: Run from the peak of Snowdon Mountain down through Wales and the West Midlands to the start of the Grand Union Canal in Birmingham (125 miles), then run down the GUC to the centre of London (145 miles), 270 miles in total.

APR 17th, 2011: The London Marathon.

MAY, 2011 (Date TBC): The Edinburgh Marathon.

I hope to raise AT LEAST £10,000 for
Cancer Research UK - the leading independent funder of cancer research in Europe. They are almost entirely funded by the public – without the generosity and dedication of their supporters they would not be able to continue making progress against cancer. In 2007/08 over 4,500 world-class cancer scientists, doctors and nurses were able to progress their pioneering investigations. This is only possible because of the incredible support that Cancer Research UK receive from the public, but there is still much more to do.

It is sometimes understandable that some say it is a fact of life that cancer will take loved ones away from us and so we should concentrate our thoughts on providing the best care possible over searching for effective prevention and cures. But recent breakthroughs and ongoing studies prove that with our support science can help save hundreds of thousands of lives. This is why I have chosen to support Cancer Reasearch UK.

Please make a donation if you are able, any amount will be much appreciated
