We pioneer life-saving cancer research to help us beat cancer

Story

Why am I doing it?

A lot of us are touched by cancer, either personally or through friends and family. Having seen the way it changes peoples lives, I looked for a way in which I could help prevent it. Having been a part of numerous charity cycle rides most of which were smaller 50 mile rides, I decided that I really wanted to push myself and be a part of something that people would find as both impressive and eye catching enough to be even more worth sponsoring. From this ride the aim is to raise £50,000 and my individual aim is to raise £1000, for this to happen i need your help!

What is it?

Monte Carlo or bust is a 1200-1300Km cycle ride that I will be doing with 50 other riders, from the charity ‘Inspired Living’, from the 28th of August to September the 7th in order to raise money for cancer research. Starting in Winchester, England, and finishing at Monte Carlo, France, the ride will prove to be both physically and mentally challenging with elevations up to 2000m above sea level.

A bit about myself

My name is Timothy Dryburgh a seventeen year old upper sixth student at school taking Maths, Physics and Further maths. Both me and my Father, Scott Dryburgh, have been cycling enthusiast for several years now and have been committed to supporting the charity ‘inspired living’ ever since. Having been unable to join my Father on several other continental rides due to my GCSE’s, I finally have the opportunity to join him on the Monte Carlo or bust ride.

The Charity

Inspired living was founded by Tim Frank, following the death of his wife Marey from breast cancer in 2009. Inspired living is all about ordinary people doing extraordinary challenges in order to raise money for cancer research, there has been numerous other continental cycle rides and many smaller events. More information can be found at http://www.inspiredliving.org.uk/

The route

On the first day of the cycle we will be setting off from Winchester and cycling to Portsmouth from which we will be taking the overnight ferry to France. The first couple of days of the ride shouldn’t prove too much struggle as the land is generally flat but as the ride progresses we reach the Alps. Which will provide one heck of a challenge!
