Story
Thank you to everyone for your kind donations and best wishes for our epic coast to coast ride.
We set off at 6.30am in partial frost at Morecambe promenade and arrived in Scarborough at 9.50pm (yes, in the same day).
Sadly, in the final stages of our ride I was unaware that my much-loved Aunt Sylvia died peacefully at Poole Hospital after a brief illness at the age of 85. She achieved many great things in her lifetime and I would like to dedicate this ride to her. She never had any children of her own but loved and adored her many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. In many ways she embodied many of Dr Barnardo's principles in having a genuine care and concern for children. She will be sadly missed by so many people. Auntie Sylvia - this ride is in memory of you. Thank you.
While I'm writing I'd like to thank my fellow riders James Malcolm and Jonathan Hunt who were fantastic company and great cyclists for all 131 miles. I'd also like to than Vicky Malcolm and Abi Hunt for doing the back up logistics on the day and for making it all possible. Thank you for telling us at Thirsk that we only had 38 miles to go!
I'd also like to thank my wife Jane for picking me up in Scarborough late on Saturday with my daughter Ruth and for taking me back to a warm bath in the small hours of Sunday morning.
Thank you to everyone - and if you know anyone who would like to donate please foward them this.
Cheers
Tom
