Twenty members of Her Majesties Armed Forces serving here in Kabul Afghanistan decided to raise some money for Help for heroes by Rowing from Kabul ,Afghanistan to Headley Court Surrey England.

The brainchild of  the event Chief Petty Officer  (PT) "Ruby" Murray (see picture!) decided to "encourage" the troops to put their spare moments of fitness training to good use by taking part in a non stop 3088 Nautical Mile Rowathon.

Although Afghanistan is a land locked country the team  have access to high quality rowing machines to row to their destination.

The plan is to row non stop (outwith Military duties) until the distance is completed and hope to achieve our Mission within two weeks.

The work of Headley court is  well known to Chief Petty Officer Murray as prior to his deployment on Operational Tour to Afghanistan he was studying  for a Degree in Sports Rehabilitation and has assisted in the recuperation process of service personnel at the establishment.

"As members of the Armed forces we know only too well how vital the work of Headley Court is in the rehabilitation of wounded colleagues and so we are hoping that friends and relatives will join with us in this project"

Along with UK troops the project has attracted the suppport and participation of colleagues from the United States of America eager to help when they were told of the work of Headley Court and the charity Help for Heroes.
