I am thrilled to be participating in the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024 to raise funds for The Lily Mae Foundation.

This charity is close to my heart as they provide support to families who have experienced the devastating loss of a baby to Stillbirth, Neonatal Death, Miscarriage or Medical Termination.

The loss of a baby is devastating and has a huge impact on the lives of the bereaved parents, their families and their friends.

The Lily Mae Foundation is a local charity, based in Balsall Common.  The Foundation has been a UK registered Charity since October 2012. They work alongside Medical & Healthcare Professionals, other Charities and the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Baby Loss, to be recognised as the main provider of bereavement support for parents and families, living in the West Midlands and Warwickshire, who have tragically lost a baby to Stillbirth, Neonatal Death, Miscarriage or Medical Termination.

Not only do they want to support anyone who has suffered the loss of a baby but they want to raise awareness of how common the loss of a baby is. Most people do not realise that Stillbirth, Neonatal Death and Medical Termination devastate the lives of more than 3,500 parents every year in the UK.  The numbers of families suffering Miscarriages, unfortunately, are not currently determined by Government but they estimate that there are over a thousand losses each day. The West Midlands and Warwickshire has one of the highest rates of baby loss in the UK. As the loss of a baby is, unfortunately, still seen as a taboo subject, parents are not encouraged to seek the support that they so desperately need.

Each year they provide some 650 Memory Boxes to bereaved parents through our fourteen partner hospitals in the West Midlands and Warwickshire. Our Memory Boxes enable bereaved parents and their families to collect and keep immediate memories of their lost precious baby. Along with our Memory Boxes they provide an extensive range of supporting programmes for bereaved parents and families that include our unique one to one Baby Loss Support Service for just over 250 individual bereaved parents each year. This Service is delivered by specially trained bereaved parents who have lived experience of baby loss.
