Story

Hello,

As part of my Bat Mitzvah I am raising money for Hackney Pirates, a literacy charity that helps children in London from less privileged backgrounds with their literacy in a fun non-school way. I chose to support this charity because I love to read and write and I think that it is very important for children who are not as lucky as me to get a good education and learn to love reading writing as much as I do.

Since it is the charity for which I will be raising money I went to visit. It is absolutely incredible. The whole thing is made to look like a pirate ship, everything inside it is pirate themed and everyone there is extremely friendly and welcoming. It is nothing like a pressured school environment and children can learn in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

About the charity

The Literacy Pirates gives young people one-to-one attention in an unconventional learning environment to support them with their literacy, confidence and perseverance. Your support is central to our programme, and ensures we can work with as many young people as possible.
