Story

In 2011 Mission International sent a team to Haiti to work with a local church in the border town of Ounaminthe. The main church building is a centre point for many in the community but was on the verge of collapsing, the internal area of the building was rubble strewn and dangerous. Yet the condition of the building was in complete contrast to the great faith of the congregation who gathered there, often daily. One old man I chatted with said 'He thought the world had forgotten about them after the earthquake but the team being there meant that not everyone had.' The oppressive heat and humidity combined with the lack of many basic services, makes life in this impoverished country extremely difficult.

By the end of our time in Haiti the congregation and the MI team had cleared the building floor of rubble and shored up the roof. Wood for new benching was purchased and some amazing carpenters produced benches in no time at all. Land for a new school was indentified and purchased. More importantly we had the chance to get amongst the local folk and the kids to work and pray with them. We even managed to organise a Football International between the Haitian lads and the MI Team! We need to keep the momentum and connection with the people of Ounaminthe going. I am returning on the 30th of June 2012 with a new MI Team to continue the work. As you can imagine the expense associated with achieving this is substantial, that is why I am making an appeal for any help you can give me with the cost of travelling expenses. Everything you donate here will go towards that outlay, anything over that will go towards purchasing everything from basic medicines to toys, school writing materials, clothes and just about anything we can think of that the folks in Ounaminthe can use. Even if you cannot make a financial contribution, a donation of any of the above items would be gratefully welcomed. If you would prefer you can also donate directly to the Mission Project at the following URL http://www.justgiving.com/projecthaiti

Have a wee look at the work in the Haiti video and the picture gallery to give you an idea of what we are doing and if you would like to know anything else about the work don’t hesitate to contact me :-)
