We undertake critical brain tumour research to improve survival rates across the World.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My wonderful little boy Matthew was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 22mths.

Since his diagnosis in January 2007, he has endured 3 relapses where his tumor has returned, 14 mths of horrific chemo and 6 weeks of radiotherapy.  After Matt's initial surgery he developed post fossa syndrome, due to the invasive surgery, which meant he lost the ability to talk, swallow, walk even move.  He has been an inspiration in re learning all of these things that we take for granted.  This is a vile disease that has a low survival rate ( Matt was given 60% chance of survival at the beginning of his treatment, this is decreasing each time his tumor comes back).

Watching Matt suffer through this has been horrific, however he is the kindest, sweetest little boy with the most fantastic imagination and a brilliant sense of humor.  He is a true inspiration to all those around him, this is why myself and a few special friends have decided to raise money into further research for brain tumors.

We need to understand this disease to stop other children suffering the way Matt has.

Prof Richard Grundy is a leading researcher in the field of brain tumors, in particular, ependymomas ( Matt's tumor).

All proceeds will go to his team to support further research in this area.

Please, please give generously don't forget to Gift Aid, to raise even more money.

Thankyou to all who have taken the time to read this page I will keep it updated with my training schdule!! Wish me luck!!  Vicki x x x

22/03/2010............

Just a quick update...........

Matt's tumor has again returned, this is now the fifth time he has had to deal with this.  He was in hospital on Friday having a port fitted into his chest, this allows blood transfusions to be given more easily.

We are now giving Matt chemo at home, this is not a cure, it is hopefully,  life prolonging.

Matt's prognosis is now very poor, however we still have a tiny bit of hope that we might have a miracle.  He is so strong and determined, a very special little boy who is loved by all that meet him.

Vital funds need to be raised for research please , if you can , help.
