The ability to get around is vital in order to live a full life yet thousands of people with sight loss never leave home alone. We empower visually impaired people to do that and rely on the support of the public to fund the guide dog service.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Update following the event

Well, I did it. Goal 1 was to complete my first marathon...did that. Goal 2 was to get a time of 4 1/2 hours...and, very pleased with my time of 4 hours 12 minutes. Much better than I expected.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed here and on the paper sheets I have left around elsewhere, in total we are close to £400 now...thanks everyone.

To make you all feel better about donating money, I am sure that what you really wnat to know, is ...did I suffer? The answer to that one is a huge, YES. For anyone who is contemplating doing one, be aware, it hurts!!!

Update for week ending 27th March

Its now just 3 weeks to go, so Ive now done the last long run. Ive been packing as many miles into this week as possible doing the run home from work and back in the next day on both Monday/Tuesday and Tuesday/Wednesday so that gained me just over 20 miles. Then today Ive just done the biggy. managed 19 miles in 2 hours 59 minutes. What a bitch, its taken 4 hours this evening to feel human again. However, thats nearly a 3/4 marathon, so I now have a higher degree of confidence that Brighton will be achievable. he best news of course is that I now get to just do 5-10 mile runs while allowing my body to heal leading up to the big day.

Up to Week ending 20th March

Yes, running can easily be as painful as it may seem from the photo. Especially as I am not exactly a youth and I have only recently started running, initially as a way to shed some pounds and get fitter...but then I got carried away and decided I needed a target, hence the Brighton Marathon. I ran in the Great South Run last October having trained up to distance of 6 miles, that 10 mile event was more than a little painful. Since then various injuries have prevented me from increasing the distances as much as I had hoped. However, I have been able to do a number of trainign runs at slightly beyond half-marathon distance, and therefore I believe that I am in with a fighting chance of finishing the course on the 18th. Any pledged support will help me have the determination to do so.
