I finished!
My run was going well till I got to around 11 miles when I could feel the
blisters coming on and from there on I was slowed down to a crawl.
I made one last effort to cross Tower Bridge running like a hero, but by the
time I got to Canary Wharf I was just fighting to stay in the run.
From there all thought of making sure that no one in fancy dress
overtook me went out of the window. I am happy to admit that there are men
wearing a Rhino and a bumble bee costumes faster than me and they deserve a
great deal of respect!
The last 12 miles were on pain killers
and lots of teeth grinding. I was walking/crawling so slowly at the end that
luckily I didn't so much as hit 'the wall' at all, but I sort of crawled under
it.
The crowds lived up to all expectation, I now know what it must feel like to be
in a team bus on cup a final day. The crowds were very supportive, especially my own family and friends
who turned up just when I needed them - the last 5 miles.
I am now the proud owner of a finishers medal, two credit card size blisters on
my feet and the most painful thighs. My sons are enjoying see their old dad
walking like a duck the last few days!
A special thank you to all of you that sponsored me - not for thinking I could
do it, most imagined I couldn't, but for the right reasons the kids that need
our support and that of the Whizz-kidz charity.
There were a few anonymous donations - thank you for those also, however I have
three donations being claimed by 15 people! Those that didn't sponsor me
because they didn't think I was going to finish can put the dosh in now!
A special well done to Lloyd and Nathan who also
completed the run, both with great times. As a team, the FX desk have raised in excess of £10,000 for the Whizz Kids charity so
far...
Thank you once again for your support these last few weeks.
Best wishes
Farooq.
