Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month), we (Will and Alicia Swannell) will be joining a group of our lovely family and friends to run or walk the Battersea Park 10k in support of Breast Cancer Now. There are 31 of us running in total.

We have chosen a group of 31 people because that is the number of people in the UK who die every day from secondary breast cancer (breast cancer which has spread to other parts of the body). There are an estimated 35,000 people in the UK living with SBC, including our mum, Patricia. Although it can be managed for a limited time with treatment, it is incurable. Despite this, there is very little awareness of the signs and symptoms and only a tiny fraction of breast cancer funding is allocated to it.

Breast Cancer Now's researchers work tirelessly to find better treatments, including numerous studies on treatments for secondary breast cancer. Their advocacy for the SBC community, education and support networks have been invaluable for our family and we hope that the funds we raise go some way to continuing their amazing work.

Thank you!
