Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

"It's cold. Winter is nearly here. My feet are frozen icicles and my hands are numb. I don't think I will last this winter" shivered the homeless man. His house was a box of cardboard, damp with snow, sheltered by a sheet of metal. His only heat was a little lamp that was struggling in the cold breeze. He staggered slowly over to the window. Families were happily eating their hot tasty roast turkey. He had no food, no warmth and a damp useless "home". He couldn't bear it. He crawled his way sadly back to his "house" and cried. Why was he in this state? He didn't know. Another man walked past over to a stall. There was hot food! He hadn't had hot food in ages. What was in the rucksack; clothes and thermals! The man, who had felt like his life was over, joyously skipped over to the stall and collected some clothes and hot food. It was the first nice thing anyone had done for him in ages! He cried a happy cry. He felt he was saved.

My family and I have been volunteering with a charity called SEVA (Sikh Empowerment Voluntary Association) for the past few years. Weekly, we offer food to the homeless and needy in Ilford (they know where to find us) at 8pm every Tuesday.  Every Winter, we would do a Rucksack appeal when we distribute rucksacks full of blankets, thermals, hats, scarfs, gloves and toiletries. This year, due to Covid-19, I feel more than ever, the need to make sure those in need have have help. When I spoke to the team, I found out they they are short on blankets and rucksacks for the rucksack appeal I decided I would try and help.

If you would like to join me in helping our local friends in need, please donate to my Just Giving page.  Any donation, even small, will make a huge difference.
