Our story began at the end of March this year when our 11 year old nephew Ben was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer (Sarcoma). It goes without saying that our world fell apart and the overwhelming feeling of helplessness is one that many people will be able to relate to. We wanted to set ourselves a challenge which would allow us to raise money for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity in Cardiff where Ben is receiving treatment.

On Sunday 1st October, we will run Cardiff Half Marathon on behalf of the charity. The fact that we are both non-runners means this isn’t going to be an easy task for us…. Close friends and family will know that we do not participate in any form of regular exercise; in fact the last time we donned a pair of trainers was back in 2015 when we sought to lose weight in readiness for wedding day preparations. Since then our trainers have long been forgotten about and have been gathering dust in the back of a cupboard! Any aches and pains that we may experience as a result of this challenge are nothing compared to the agony, discomfort and emotional demands experienced by Ben, his sister Hannah and our brother and sister-in-law (Andrew and Claire) as Ben’s gruelling treatment continues during the many months ahead. We will adopt Ben’s determination in fighting cancer to our training and will be thinking of him every step of the 13.1 mile distance. Ben is our inspiration. Ben is our hero.

We are going to be running for hope. We are going to be running with love. We are going to be running with sincere thanks and gratitude. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to the team in Cardiff for the extensive treatment and support which you are providing to Ben and the rest of our family. We realise that many people visiting our page will already donate to other charities. The Noah’s Ark Appeal gives specialist and life-saving treatment to 73,000 children. Our Ben is one of those very special children. This is our way of showing our appreciation by giving something back.
