<p>Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.</p> <p>Did you know hedgehogs are now an endangered species?&nbsp;According to Hedgehog Street, three surveys by the British Trust for Ornithology and PTES&rsquo; <a href="http://www.ptes.org/mor">Mammals on Roads</a> and <a href="http://www.ptes.org/lwm">Living with Mammals </a>surveys all indicate declines, in both urban gardens and the wider countryside. The size of the decline is between 1.8 and 10.7 percent each year. In just the first decade of this century, around a quarter of the population has been lost.&nbsp;</p> <p>Hart Wildlife Rescue treats and rehabilitates&nbsp;a wide variety of wildlife including hedgehogs.&nbsp; Each winter they treat and care for hedgehogs that are poorly or simply weigh too little to get them through the hibernation period.&nbsp;</p> <p>The year before last&nbsp;Hart were inundated with&nbsp;underweight hedgehogs unable to hibernate and so they asked for volunteers to foster some of them.&nbsp; Hart&nbsp;gave me some&nbsp;training on how to care for&nbsp;hedgehogs and let me take 3 home to look after over the winter (unbeknown to my husband who was just expecting me to bring back one!).&nbsp; All 3 enjoyed the hotel Zoe experience and happily put on weight.&nbsp; When Spring arrived we released them into our garden and they have been frequent visitors ever since.</p> <p>Without Hart Wildlife Rescue's&nbsp;help these hedgehogs and many other animals would not survive.&nbsp; So it is important that they are able to continue their good work.</p> <p>I have been training hard since November last year.&nbsp; A couple of weeks ago I did a 20 mile training run which is the furthest I have ever run.&nbsp;&nbsp;Despite feeling as though I had no energy at the end of this I am confident that I will be able to make it round all 26.2 miles in Vienna.&nbsp;&nbsp;That said&nbsp;I am under no illusions,&nbsp;it will be incredibly difficult.</p> <p>Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
