Achill Half Marathon · 3 July 2010

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

We are taking part in the 2010 Achill Half Marathon. We are doing so in the hope of raising a heap of money for National Association for Colitis & Crohn's (NACC).  It is a great charity in need of support. Please be as generous as you can. Every penny is appreciated and will help make a difference.

The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (NACC) brings together people of all ages who have Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, which includes Proctitis, their families and the health professionals involved in their care. These two illnesses are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and they affect about 1 in 250 people in the United Kingdom.

Colitis and Crohn's (conditions known as inflammatory bowel disease or IBD) affect a quarter of a million people across the UK - symptoms can include diarrhoea, severe pain and fatigue, eye, joint and skin problems, and impaired growth in children. These lifelong diseases have no known cure, and frequently first affect teenagers and young adults.

Despite the greater prevalence of IBD (every 1 in 250 people in the UK) public recognition of Colitis & Crohn's Disease is well below that of Parkinson's disease or Multiple Sclerosis and only 39% of UK hospitals have a database of their IBD patients
