Story
February 2006 was an extremely difficult time for me and others around me. My best friend, who had only 6 months earlier also become my brother-in-law, sadly died very suddenly.
He wasn’t ill and he wasn’t in an accident – he died because of a blood clot, a DVT in his leg that he didn’t know he had. He hadn’t been on a long flight and he hadn’t had a knock. The ambulance took 4 minutes to arrive, but even so, it was still too late to save him.
We are a team of ten who are friends and family of Steve Palmer who sadly died last year. We will be walking 40 miles over the hills of the Lake District. We will start walking at 5.30am and hope to reach the finish (in one piece!) by 9pm the same day.
The Keswick to Barrow walk comes at the end of the third annual National Thrombosis Week organised by Lifeblood: The Thrombosis Charity, which aims to place the spotlight on the signs, symptoms and prevention of thrombosis. Many of Lifeblood’s supporters and friends are organising and hosting events throughout May across the to raise funds for research and education.
