It’s been over 3 years since the Syrian revolution began in Syria in 2011. There are millions of innocent civilians who have been caught in the cross fire. The level of violence in the country means that the UN, NGOs and international aid agencies aren’t able to provide aid, leaving the most vulnerable effectively abandoned.

There are over 6.5 million people internally displaced within Syria, and over 2.5 million refugees fleeing to surrounding countries. That’s a total of more than 8.8 million people – more than the entire population of London and a third of all Syrians- who have run from their homes with nothing more than what they carry with them. More than half that number are under the age of 18.

Host countries are unable to support the mass influx of refugees. Lack of clean water and sanitation is causing disease. Children are being sexually exploited. The situation is only getting worse and because of the political stalemate within the UN Security Council, a diplomatic solution is still far off.

Most aid agencies operate outside of Syria because of political or security restrictions. Hand in Hand delivers aid into 90% of Syria, including the most difficult to reach and desperate areas of the country.
