Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

THE FINAL UPDATE...not quite '2 weeks after my last update' but with pace of the trek slow, I've kept up the theme!!

This is the final update on my Kilimanjaro Trek, having successfully climbed to the summit on 7th October.

The whole experience was truely amazing and one which I'll never forget! Some new pictures are now on the page which hopefully give you an idea of what was experienced.

I've kept saying it, but I want to thank everyone again who donated (and who still are), who encouraged me and wished me well in my efforts....I am delighted that about £12,500 has now gone to Yorkhill and thoughts of all this support kept me going when the trek got really tough.....but its all been worth it.

Since returning home and reviewing my many photos I have been reminded of the magnificent scenery, the friends I met, the good and the tough times on the trek and now sit back and enjoy the moment.....hopefully you'll enjoy the pictures on the page now and will maybe tempt you??!!

Thanks and best wishes.....Alan.

''1 WEEK TO GO'' UPDATE

This is the last update before heading off to Klimanjaro on Friday 1st October.

The ''Quiz Night finale'' of the fund raising took place last week and raised a fantastic sum of £2,161.00 to add to the Foundations' total. The total sum so far including the donations on the Just Giving site and all other cash and cheques is now £10,078.00.

Thank you to all who contributed at the quiz night both in the organisation and in donating....the night went perfectly and the money raised was fantastic!!

This only leaves the last stage to be completed and all being well, that will be achieved on Thursday 7th at the summit.

Your support and encouragements will keep me going over the next few days and I just need to thank all of you once again for your generosity.

The FINAL update will appear in a couple of weeks time!!.......ALAN.

JUNE & JULY UPDATE

Thanks again for visiting my ''Just Giving'' page.

There's a few new pictures of recent walks and although it has been a good day at the car park, the summits have generally been in the clouds so the 'spectacular' views the books tell you about , weren't seen!!

It's 8 weeks now until the serious stuff starts. The last couple of weeks have been about arranging injections and visas for Africa plus a few final purchases of various kit.

The training is now including cycling and swimming along with the hillwalking (all on differant days!) and the fundraising will this month be boosted by a charity golf day at Cambuslang Golf Club and next month, by a Quiz Night in the Alona Hotel in Motherwell....I want to thank all of you who have organised these events and arranged prizes and donations....I do appreciate your help.

The donations are still coming in and thanks again if you've donated recently.

I'll update the site again at the end of August......Alan

APRIL & MAY UPDATE

Hello again if you're checking back on the site to see progress or, if you've just donated to my challenge, thank you so much for your generosity. Donations have been steadily coming in and its been great to see the total climb...thanks to everyone who's donated.

The recent training walks have been in the sun at last!!....and, as you'll see from the new pictures, the climbs on Ben Lomond, Ledi and Vorlich have been magnificent....and enjoyable.

Next week means 4 months to go and the training will move up a gear again, but when you get a clear sunny day with the views I've experienced this month, it makes it a pleasure to work hard at the climbs.

Thanks again to all of you all of you for the encouragement, ''advice'' and of course '££'.

MARCH UPDATE

The web site has been active for a few weeks now and I'd like to thank everyone who has donated so far...the response from so many people has been fantastic.

Its only 6 months now till I'm off to 'Kili' and as you can see from the latest photos the training, which is 'summarised by....'walk up and down as many hills as possible..the bigger the better'', is going well. I must thank the friends and colleagues who have accompanied me on these walks providing encouragement and fun along the way.....walks in the sun will be nice though!

I have decided that for a ’holiday’ this year I hope to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, not only as a personal challenge but to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation in Glasgow. 100% of the money I manage to raise will go to the Foundation.

Rising 5896m (19,340 feet) above sea level, Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and is the world’s highest free-standing mountain. It lies 205 miles south of the equator close to Tanzania’s northern border with Kenya.

I will be leaving London on 1st October and will be back (hopefully still walking!) on 11th October having climbed Kilimanjaro, hopefully having reached its summit on Thursday 7th

The money raised will be used by the Foundation to provide ‘extra’ services and pieces of equipment for sick children and babies treated at the hospital….things like state of the art scanners, running the Foundations MediCinema - the first cinema in a UK children’s hospital, paying for a kids party in a ward or funding ‘days out’….these all need funded and monies the Foundation receives all helps with these kind of things.

Your donation MAKES A DIFFERENCE, by helping improve the hospital facilities, by making the hospital environment that bit better place to be and helps bring a smile to children and you!

If you can, please make a donation, leave me a message and get an update on the challenge. I’ve updated the page at the end of March following some recent climbs but drop back again and get details and some new pictures of my training progress on Scotlands’ wee hills!.

If you’ve made a donation, thank you so much, your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Please spread the word on my challenge and pass on my ‘’Just Giving’’ address.

Thank you    Alan.
