The Great North Run is the largest half marathon in the world (52,000 entrants this year) and at 13 miles is about 12.94 miles longer than I had run for a long time until a few months ago. I have decided to do this for 4 reasons:

1. My Dad died of a massive heart attack which with better research and treatments may have been preventable. 
2. To raise much needed funds for a very worthwhile and under funded cause who do far more than we realise with far less than they need.
3. To continue my now borderline fanatical quest for fitness.
4. As I was 40 in June it was either this or grow a pony tail and buy a Harley Davidson.
