Fundraising for Voluntary Service Overseas
Story
Welcome and thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the VSO - Accenture Mount Everest Base Camp Challenge 2011!
My name is Francisco (Alex) Tourreilles and, as many of you know, I am an avid hiker. I have been working at Accenture, a global consulting company for a couple of years now, and have just signed up for a unique volunteer opportunity that they offer through their Corporate Citizenship program.
I have volunteered to trek among the Himalayan peaks to the Everest Base Camp and on to Kala Pattar in order to raise funds for VSO, the world’s leading international development charity that works through volunteers to combat poverty, and provide education and health opportunities. The funds raised through this challenge will support VSO's projects around the world and specifically in Nepal, where the trek takes place.
With a population of approximately 30 million and a per capita GDP of US$450, Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and ranks as the twelfth poorest in the world. Part of the funds raised by the Everest Base Camp trek will specifically support VSO's Education programs in Nepal given the important role of education in addressing development challenges and achieving sustainability.
The Challenge
In March of 2011 I will join a group of volunteers from around the world to take part in a trek from the town of Lukla to the base of Mount Everest. My journey begins with this charity drive to raise funds for VSO, and will continue onwards to the foot of the world's highest and most impressive mountain.

Upon the conclusion of the Everest Base Camp trek, I will send out an illustrated journal of the journey to all of the people that contributed to this cause, so that you can experience with me the incredible adventure I will embark on and to thank you for your support.
