For those of you who don't know me, I am 26 years old, I live in Nairn near Inverness and work as a nurse in a local hospital.  Insane has been used several times but I decided that I needed a challenge this year and wanted it to mean something - so I registered on a cycle from Lands End to John O Groats in aid of Help for Heroes.  I am a novice cycler and am training my heart out determined to finish this road trip. 

It is a rare thing to hear the media reporting on the huge numbers of injured servicemen and women returning home from conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Help for Heroes was set up in 2007 and is run mainly by volunteers so that the money we raise goes directly to our wounded.  I went through a spell in my life when my husband was away with the RAF more than he was at home.  I wondered if he would come home at all or how we would cope if he came home injured.  As well as my husband, I have lots of friends in the forces, so this charity was an ideal choice with the subject being so close to my heart.
