Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having had a few years off fundraising since London Marathon 2007 I thought it only fair that having supported Macmillan who were so fantastic during my Mum's treatment that I should do something similar to show gratitude for Macmillan again for their work in supporting Mum and Dad and the rest of us during the fight that has been brought to Dad's door recently.

I'll be joining up with the Official Macmillan Team to Conquer the Alps from 15th - 19th September 2010 where we will be cycling for 3 days and covering 6 of the Cols featuring in the Tour de France culminating with the climb up one of the most famous challenges in cycling - Alp D'Huez - And then I'm hoping to do the marathon next year just for my own amusement - just don't tell Catherine ;-)

Cancer impacts so many lives and for those who are lucky enough not to have had to face the horror it can sometimes be difficult to get across how tough it can be. My own experiences are that its like being in a bubble that you can't see out of. Everything else slides away into the background and you focus on what really matters in your life. The help of family and friends together with the inspirational team at Macmillan allows ordinary people to become super heroes and overcome what would be insurmountable obstacles if tackled alone. It would be easy to think Cancer is the worst thing that could happen to you - for many it really is - but I know from my parents that it is also possible for those who can look back at their challenges to say that it galvanised their spirits in a way that nothing else ever could and that if greater challenges lie ahead then we will approach them with even greater determination than before.

So just as in 2007 when I was delighted to have Mum at the finish line of the Marathon I'll be as pleased to be calling Mum and Dad from the top of Alp D'Huez on 19th Sept with a "biere" in my hand (or other suitable energy replacement drink !)

Please note that I will be covering the cost of the trip myself so please do be assured that ALL your donations will be going direct to benefit Macmillan and will NOT be funding this trip for me.

If you can donate please do so - it WILL make a difference.

Many thanks
