After a few 10k's and a couple of half marathons I had a bizarre yearning to have a bash at a full marathon so last year I applied for the Flora London Marathon 2009. Fully expecting to be rejected imagine my surprise/shock and then eventual horror when they called my bluff and accepted me!!

I have done a reasonable amount of training and even rationed myself to gin and tonic's at the weekend which has been a real sacrifice.

I completed a half marathon in 1hr 44mins last Sunday (22nd Feb) in sunny Blackpool (picture to the left) and I am feeling reasonably confident that the old knees will hold up and get me round the streets of our capital city without giving way on me (that could come back and haunt me!). 

Time wise a full marathon is unchartered territory for me but here goes:

Plan A is to try and beat the time set by James Reed (Chairman of the company I work for), if I can do this he will donate £1000 to my charity (Leukaemia Research) thats the good news.

The bad news is that unfortunately James is no slouch and managed it in a very respectable 3hrs 55 mins so I have my work cut out!!

Plan B is under 4hrs 30mins

Plan C is not to get beaten by the guy in the lead diving boots or the fella that runs with a canoe under his arm. 

Plan D is that I have to be back in work on the Tuesday (but we do have a London office)

So here comes the begging bit, as I can't rely on beating  James then I need some pennies from you all so I can give an extremely worthy charity something for my efforts. I realise that its not the best of time to be asking for money for a run but anything you can spare would be gratefully received by both myself and the charity.
