Story
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
We are joining Sir Ian 'Beefy' Botham on a six mile leg as part of his nine town sponsored walk to raise awareness and money for Leukaemia Research.
Our inspiration for taking part is the little lad pictured opposite.
Ellis is four years old and lives in Otford Kent, with his parents and his 9 year old brother Robert . In April this year he complained of pain in his hip. Mum and Dad took him to the local GP who immediately sent him to Farnborough Hospital where Ellis was diagnosed with Leukaemia.
That night, Ellis was sent to the Royal Marsden Hospital for treatment. The initial diagnosis was that the illness was very treatable with an 80% chance of recovery with three years of treatment. However this changed rapidly when Ellis was re-diagnosed with Philadelphia Chromosone Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, which only affects around 1% of infant suffers.
Instead of the previous treatment timescale Ellis now faced the same level of chemo therapy but condensed down to six months and Ellis will have to have a complete bone marrow transfer. This type of Leukaemia has a recovery rate of between 10% and 30%. Ellis is still receiving massive amounts of chemo therapy but is still incredibly resilient and a very very brave little boy.
The good news is that The Anthony Nolan Trust have found two donors suitable for Ellis.
Mum and Dad both work for the Metropolitan Police and friends and colleagues have already helped raise thousands of pounds for Leukaemia Research and also been tested for suitability as bone marrow donators.
The fight goes on for Ellis and other children and I hope you can help by sponsoring us . Thanks.
