In April 2008 I will be taking part in a race across the Sahara Desert called “The MARATHON DES SABLES” which is reputed to be the toughest footrace on earth. The race involves running 151 miles (243km) in 6/7 days carrying everything for the duration (apart from a tent) on my back including food, clothes, medical kit sleeping bag etc. Water is rationed and handed out at each checkpoint.
The course is run over uneven rocky, stony ground as well as sand dunes in temperatures of up to 120oF with the longest stage being a 50+ miler on the 4th day. For the “pleasure” of taking part in this event I have to find £2,500 for the entrance fee plus a further £500+ for food, equipment, insurance etc and any other overheads.
Whilst I am suffering in the Desert I want to raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research. I am sure we have all been affected in one way or another by this disease, directly or indirectly, so please help to raise as much money as possible. Every penny raised will go to Cancer Research.
If you want any further info on the race there are two websites to look at;
