Story
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I recently returned from the Kenya Challenge and it was a fantastic experience. We spent 4 days working in a school that desperately needed our help. There was no electricity or running water, and most of the 350 children occupying the 8 classrooms sat on the floor as there was a huge shortfall of desks.
The school was dull and colourless, but with the help of the 20 Hays employees on the mission, we managed to paint nearly half of the school in "Marie Curie blue" and put up educational posters to help the teachers. We built a total of 37 new desks that can seat 4 children, and fixed a further 10. We also put up guttering to help collect rain water running off the roof into the water tank. The children at the school walk up to a 25km round trip to attend school, they love going to school and really deserve the help we gave them - they have permanent smiles on their faces despite the schooling conditions. It was a very humbling, emotional and also rewarding experience to be able to help, and 4 of the most memorable days of my life.
As a group we have so far raised over £80000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care, which will help pay for 4 full time Marie Curie nurses over the next year. Their nurses offer expert home nursing care and emotional support totally free of charge to families affected by cancer. Your support and generosity in supporting me has made a real difference. Thank you.
My fundraising page is still open for a further 2 weeks, so if you would like to make a further donation, you can do so via the Just Giving site, which is a totally secure method.
Once again, thank you for your support.
Andy
