Story

Hello all and thanks for visiting my fund-raising page. Updated 13th August
My sponsored slim weigh-in took place 17th June witnessed again by my ballet  teacher and staff at my Gym.
I'm very pleased to report that the result was I lost a massive 24lbs in 3 months! The start weight was 12st 10lb and I weighed-in at 11 stone.  Check out the photo. Good eh??  Sorry all you brave people who sponsored me per pound!

I've been undertaking the Sponsored Slim to raise money for The Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund in memory of my father Derek Newman who died from Amelanotic Malignant Melanoma in December 2005. (Amelanotic means without pigment - moles can be white so beware).  It's a really horrible cancer and the best way of preventing it is not to get sunburnt or use sunbeds. Children, Fair-skinned and Freckly people are at highest risk. The damage can take 20 years+  to materialise.

It's the most rapidly increasing cancer in the UK. But easy to treat if found early.

The weigh-in date coincided with National Melanoma Awareness Week organised by the Charity. During that week, thanks to Jo Pond of  Richmond's Pools on the Park, we set up an Awareness Stall for a couple of sessions outside the Pools and collected £51.25 as well as distributing information leaflets on Melanoma. The Mole Awareness Van is now out on the road in Cornwall where the highest incidence is in the UK.
On Saturday 11th July, despite the rain, we ran a fund-raising stall at The St. Margaret's Fair and brought the total from 3 local fairs up to £605.20.  I am really grateful to Alison Collins, Judy Hill, Nita de Peterson, Gill Timmis, Gail Hebert and my wonderful husband and son Julian and Sam Marks for giving their time or donating goods to support the fund-raising at these 3 events. Thank you all!

You will find a Gift Aid form there to down-load to add to a cheque which I can send off
BUT BETTER STILL DONATE HERE -
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGEMENT.  IT HAS BEEN FANTASTIC! THANK-YOU ALL SO MUCH. PLEASE DONATE YOUR SPONSORSHIP NOW!
I'M OVERWHELMED BY THE AMOUNTS ALREADY DONATED.  IF THE REMAINING PLEDGES COME IN, THE SLIM WILL HAVE RAISED OVER £1500 (including Gift Aid) THANKS TO YOUR HUGE GENEROSITY!  EVERY £1 COUNTS -
SO PLEASE CONTINUE  MAKING DONATIONS HOWEVER SMALL..........

Thank You All Very Much Indeed. Have a lovely summer and please ensure you are Sun Safe (min SPF 15 sun screen / SPF 30 for kids). Get your soul/mole mate to check you over regularly and get any dodgy moles to the Doctor asap (In theJuly I found out that a friend has recently had Melanoma surgery, which they hope has been caught soon enough)

Best wishes and love Angie x
(P.S. The diet continues)......
