Hello there!

With just 11 days left until we start our walk, I thought I would give you all an update.  For those visiting this page for the first time, you will find the full story by scrolling down the page. It was written last year when the idea of the walk was first "born".

The main news that I am no longer just I. Dave Jackson of East Midlands Trains, Tony Bishop, a member of the Fire Service, and Jim Hamilton of Chiltern Railways will be joining me on the walk.

Our initial target was £500, which we smashed fairly quickly.  It was then decided that our target should be raised to £2500 – the amount it costs to run Beechwood Cancer Care Centre each day. Although we are now over half way in our fundraising efforts, we really need your help to achieve our goal.

Anyone wishing to join us on part of our walk is more than welcome.  We would also love it if you could join us to celebrate our arrival at Manchester Piccadilly on 23rd June 2014.

August 2013

My name is Anna Stimpson and in August 2013 I lost my friend, Jane Woods, to cancer.

Jane worked as a Train Driver, based at Manchester Piccadilly.  She was a lovely lady who loved her job, family and friends.

I met Jane in 2001 and I also work on the railway.  I am a Train Manager, based at Birmingham Moor Street.  It is with this in mind that I decided to raise money by walking from my depot, Birmingham Moor Street, to Janes depot, Manchester Piccadilly.

I plan to complete the walk in June 2014.  I shall be using the canal towpaths to complete my journey and I will be setting myself 6 days to do it in.  I shall post the dates and my route once they are confirmed.

The challenge will be made a little tougher due to the fact that on Friday 20th September 2013 I shall be having knee surgery to replace my anterior cruciate ligament.  I shall therefore have to put a great deal of work in over the coming months what with both my physio and then training for the walk.

The charity I am raising money for is called Beechwood Cancer Care Centre.  The centre provided a great deal of help and support to both Jane and her family throughout her illness.  For more information on the Centre, please click on this link: http://www.beechwoodcancercare.org.uk/
