Story
Welcome to my fundraising page.
Mass immunisation programmes are “reaching out to more children in more wards and districts more often than any other programme (in Nigeria)”, yet there remain places which are 'hard-to-reach'. Increasingly turbulent social and environmental factors multiply the challenges.
I was contacted a few months ago by Dr. David Donovan of New Foundations, a UK registered charity, working as an NGO in the Niger Delta - apparently treading where government fears to go, and delivering healthcare to remote communities using local personnel which it trains. Its practical approach, based on sound research, and sustainable practice, embedding expertise within the beneficiary communities, and using equipment which could be resourced within the country, resonated with my experience of a successful initiative, and its outcomes, in the northern states of Nigeria (http://www.handsontv.info/series6/programme_1.html#4). New Foundations has been successful in roping-in assistance from commercial and charitable organisations, and attracting specialist surgical partners on the back of its achievements. Its activities demonstrate resourcefulness, tenacity and methods which could be replicated to advantage elsewhere in the country.
It has an excellent website (http://www.newfoundations.org.uk/) unfolding a great deal of information in a variety of ways, which I recommend to you. I would like to support this organisation and assist it to develop its good work. On the occasion of my 60th birthday, I ask you my friends and family, wherever you may be, to be my 'genie' - help me materialise this wish! Start with a financial donation, and perhaps consider what expertise and contacts you might further be able to offer directly to New Foundations.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: New Foundations will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for your support.
