Story
Hi,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: GCap Charities will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Here's a little background into homelessness within the capital:
London is the richest city in one of the richest countries of the world. It has so many jobs yet we still have a big problem with homelessness.
Homelessness doesn’t just mean sleeping on the street. It can mean people living in insecure accommodation. This could be families sharing accommodation with other families or are sleeping on their friend’s sofa.
You might find six people sharing a one bedroom flat. They could be in ‘temporary’ accommodation from which they could be evicted at any time. It can take councils a long time to ‘rehouse’ these families into permanent accommodation.
Over 84,000 children in London live in insecure or temporary accommodation.
London just doesn’t have enough homes.
The population is growing and households are getting smaller – more and more people live alone. We haven’t been able to build new houses fast enough to cope with this increasing demand.
High housing costs also create problems. Wages in London haven’t increased at the same rate as house prices and private rents. There is a lack of ‘affordable’ housing in London. Most homeless families can’t afford to buy or rent in London.
I am hoping to walk The Great Wall Of China for Help a London Child, over eight days, walking on average 6-7 hours per day, to help make the above problem minimal. My usual comforts, like a comfy bed, shower etc, will be swapped, by roughing it out, smelly feet, sticky armpits, and no hot showers at the end of the days walk. If you fancy putting me to the test, while touching on a worthy appeal for thousands of homeless children in London, please feel free to sponsor me via this website.
Any donations would be grately appreciated by the charity, and of course by myself.
Many thanks for your support.
Anton
