Story
Thanks for visiting my new amended fundraising page!
For a week in November I am returning to India with a gang from work to take part in Community Challenge, a project that is run in conjunction with our industry charity NABS and Habitat for Humanity.
We will be helping to build houses in one of the poorest areas just outside Bangalore, working alongside the people living in the area - by doing this we will be providing employment to the locals, supporting the local economy by staying in local accommodation and eating locally. But most importantly we will be helping to provide housing for people very much in need of it.
I'll be digging foundations, building walls and - apparently - putting together toilets. In order to fund this project we have all agreed to raise a minimum of £2,500 EACH which is to be split between both charities.
Just some of the reasons that I wanted to sign up for this challenge include:
- Two billion people worldwide live in poverty housing. These are often poorly ventilated shacks that are built from wattle and daub or planks, so they are forced to rebuild their homes annually.
- Many of these people earn less than US$2 per day*.
- Substandard housing can endanger the health and safety of its occupants, erode their hope and self-worth, and impair their children's ability to succeed in school.
- Building a home for someone else is a unique experience that opens your eyes to the plight of others who do not have the basic, decent shelter that most of us take for granted.
- By the end of 2006, more than 1.25 million people worldwide were living in decent, affordable housing built by schemes such as these.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Habitat for Humanity and NABS both get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
In return for your kind donations that will ensure that these families get a better quality of life, I'll give it my all and I promise to upload pictures of me constructing those loos.
So please dig deep and donate whatever you can.
Thank you so much,
Anya x
**A massive thank you to everyone who donated an amazing ₤910 on my previous page at www.justgiving.com/anyapaul. This new page has the NABS charity on it instead and they will ensure that the right money gets distributed between themselves and Habitat for Humanity, who were on my old page - meaning I still have ₤1,600 to raise.**
