Story
Hi Guys and Gals...
Those of you that know me, probably know me as a bloke seen more often in the pub than in the gym. Well folks, times have changed and I've made a decision to get fit. Now everybody knows that you need a goal to do anything so I thought I'd aim high and reach for the Marathon (no, not the chocolate bar).
The goal? Run the London Marathon
When? Sunday 25th April 2010
Having missed the public ballot, I figured the only other means to enter is via a charity, hence the sponsorshop page. Thankfully, the British Red Cross responded to my plea for a place (I think the response was along the lines of "You're unfit, overweight, never done fundraising before? You're in!".
So I've now got 6 months to get fit enough to run 26.2 miles. The last time I ran was 20 years ago, so I know that I've got a good hard slog ahead of me, so please be generous enough to reflect the anount of work that I am putting into this. I've checked with the local nurse who says that I'm not at risk of any major problems, which is all good news.
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. They are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies. I believe that the British Red Cross is a very worthwhile cause, covering first aid, emergency response and health & social care in addition to all of the other global causes such as the series of Asia Pacific disasters that have occured recently killing thousands and leaving millions devastated.
