Story

About Darren:

My name is Darren Kelly, 52 year old Burnley lad. I am husband to Vanessa, dad to Ashley and Alex and granddad to Mollie.  I have completed the last 2 BKPCA charity bike rides, Burnley to Bournemouth in 2017 followed by the return ride last year. Ashley has also done the last 2 rides in 2017 and 2018 in the capacity of support driver for the cyclists. I am doing it again this year, easily persuaded by Mr Gibson after a day out!!!

I am doing this again for obviously the great cause that the bike ride supports and also for the challenge that doing this sort of ride brings along with the great craic and camaraderie that occurs on these rides. I am not one of the more established riders and would class myself still as a bit of a novice, however, I have been bitten by the cycling bug over the last couple of years to the point where I have now shelled out on a more expensive bike (all the gear still no idea!) so need to justify to the missus and myself that I can continue doing these great rides hopefully for many years to come.

About Ash:

My name is Ashley Kelly and I am 28 years old from Burnley. 2 years ago my dad asked if I wanted to help out and drive the support van for the BKPCA bike ride. Not being much of a cyclist and more of "white van tan" enthusiast, I jumped at the chance. Over the past 2 years, all the lads have put in a tremendous effort cycling up and down the country and it's an honour in being able to aid them when ever they need it. We hope this year's just as fun and the laughs keep rolling whilst more importantly, raising that much needed dollar!

I've got my beret and Piz Buin factor 30 (right arm only) at the ready!!

A huge thank you also to boohooMAN.com for supplying this years jerseys :)

On the 17th April 2019, 26 riders will be setting off from Burnley Football Club to embark on an International journey in support of the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal. The first leg of the journey will be from Burnley across to Hull, where the riders will board the ferry across to Zebrugge. On day two, the riders will continue in the saddle from Zebrugge, heading towards Dunkirk. There will be slight de-tour on this route whilst the riders pay their respects at the Ramscappelle military cemetery where many Burnley men from the East Lancs regiment are laid to rest. Day two will finish at Dunkirk. On day three, the riders will take the ferry from Dunkirk to Dover. Then on the final day, the riders will make their way from Dover and ride up to Chelsea Football Club, taking in all the sights of London on their way.Funds raised from the cycle will be split, 90% to the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal and 10% to Burnley FC in the Community.
