Story

Thank you for visiting the Ashley Hyde fun run page.

Ashley was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma on 9th june 08 at JR oxford hospital at the age of 5 years. Neuroblastoma is a rare and aggressive child hood cancer.

The treatment for Neuroblastoma is very harsh and intense, to date Ashley has undergone 7 rounds of rapip cojec chemotherapy 3 rounds of tvd chemotherapy, a stem cell harvest and a complex operation to remove the main tumour.

Ashley is due to undergo high dose chemotherapy in feb 09 followed by radiation.

Despite the high level of present treatment that Ashley has had, future privately funded treatment in another country cannot be ruled out.

The likelihood of relapse in Neuroblastoma is as high as 70% and there are very limited resources for dealing with this type of children’s cancer in the UK due to its rareness.

Private treatment will be very expensive and it is  for that reason we must raise funds now.

Neuroblastoma - the facts:
1  Neuroblastoma starts as a complex tumour, which arises either in the sympathetic nervous system or closely associated adrenal glands and is usually, although not always located in the abdomen this can then spread to secondary cancer effecting the bone marrow or vital organs.
2  About 100 children in the UK are diagnosed each year and most of these are less than 5 years of age.
3  In Ashley's case the tumour is above his left adrenal gland and has metastasised into his lymph nodes, bone marrow, pelvis both legs and 1 arm

(visit www.ashleyhydeappeal.org.uk  for more information about Ashley)- remember to sponsor us first though please).
4  Children with advance-stage disease (Stage 4) have a significantly decreased chance for cure despite intensive therapy only 20%.
5  As with most cancers the cause of Neuroblastoma is unknown.
