Story
Jo (Axon) and I made it to the summit of 5,896 meters (19,340 ft), and I have attached a couple of more appropriate photos to prove it.
I suffered badly on day 2, throwing up all day and was very weak. All your generous donations really helped me through and I was back to my normal ox like self by the summit morning of Day 6. In fact, I felt so strong, I went back up a second time with Jo so that we could get a photo together at the top!
There were no pubs, but we managed to get some beer on the mountain on our last night. Jo and I went a combined total of 12 days without booze, which must be a record!
I'm very pleased to have reached my goal of getting to the top, and raising £4,000, but any more doantions are still very gratefully received.
Alex, who 50% of the donation is going towards, is now out at The Cancer Centre at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston starting his daily Proton Beam treatments. He has already raised over £110,000 of the c.£160,000 he needs, with his sister Lucinda raising over £10,000 on her 10 km run. For more information go to his website http://www.protonbeamalex.com .
Due to the other people I know with brain tumours, (far too many) the other 50% of your donation will go to brainstrust.
brainstrust supports brain tumour patients at the point of diagnosis, but also aim to improve the treatment, care and outcomes of all patients who are diagnosed with brain cancer. In summary, they support patients and their families, work with hospitals to secure care pathways for patients, campaign and advocate on behalf of the brain tumour community, fund technology for treatment and fund research that translates into clinical practice. It's not too late to donate! Thanks for all your contributions.
