Story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online!!

My nephew, Jack, was born Christmas 2006. After emergency surgery at 48 hours old it was discovered that Jack has Cystic Fibrosis. From this moment the lives of our family have changed forever. Despite Jack's good recovery from surgery we had to face the implications of Cystic Fibrosis to all members of the family and Jack's future within it.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the UK's most common life threatening inherited disease. Five babies a week are born with it to parents who largely have no knowledge that they are carriers. No family history of CF may ever be apparent as there is no routine screening program to detect carrier genes. CF affects the vital organs of the body, especially the lungs and pancres, clogging them with thick sticky mucus. The avaerage life expectancy of someone with CF is 31.

In a quest to help Jack and others with CF I have pledged to take part in a number of sponsored events throughout the year.

The Adidas London Half Marathon Completed 18th March in 1 hour and 44 minutes!! Despite the terrible weather, freezing blizzards one minute, then glorious sunshine the next, had a fantastic time and glad to get the first event under way!!

NEW EVENT Southwell Triathlon Completed 6th May in 1 hour and 10 minutes. First triathlon and very much enjoyed. Could be the start of more to come!!

Yorkshire 10K Run  Completed 20th May in 48 minutes! At last some glorious sunshine. Had a fantastic day despite some rather rough countryside! Picnic enjoyed by all, especially Fleur raiding the hamper, Jack sleeping through the event and Evie on a big balloon quest!

140ft Abseil, St Mary's Church Steeple, Brammal Lane, Sheffield Completed 7th July. So good did it twice! Also joined by Roo despite some aprehension! Getting up the staircase a bit more tricky than the decent!

Capital to Coast Bike Ride, 60 Miles, London to Hove Unfortunately due to back injury had to withdraw at the last minute. Don't mention the car!! Other events included instead.

NEW EVENT Great Yorkshire Run, Sheffield Completed 9th September in 48 minutes. What a birthday present Liz! Will stick to pub outings in future!!!! Great day enjoyed by all, especially Fleur celebrity spotting!

The Great North Run Completed 30th September in 1 hour 48 minutes. Fantastic day with unbelievable atmosphere and support. Made a great end to events and well worth it!!!

Rather than asking for individual sponsorship for each event I am hoping to raise the target amount through a total of the events.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Cystic Fibrosis Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

My family and I would be very grateful of your support and sponsorship!!!

Many thanks and best wishes for your support and encouragement!

Simon
