It's a few years since I've done an official charity event and in the past I've always chosen to help those close to home but this year as we've gone through one of the most miserable winters I can remember I've been deeply touched by the plight of the million or so refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria. The hardship and suffering which those poor people are going through is unimagineable to us in our cosy centrally heated homes when they are living in tents, with inadequeate clothes, food and medical supplies with freezing temperatures outside and worst of all no light at the end of the tunnel. 

So to help, me and a few guys from work have decided to put ourselves through some hardship to help alleviate theirs. The Trailtrekker is an annual event to trek 100km over the Yorkshire Dales in under 30 hours - but to make it more difficult we are aiming to do it in less than 24 hours.
